ROLLED PAPER WORKS

Picture
The Spiral Reads Series were all started after Rosette Spectra, made in 2011. I created Letters of Sacrifice and any other rolled paper works after. All of the works below are from a series where I took Texas newspapers and found color from the articles in the pages. There are no painted spirals, these are all found color. When searching through the pages of the Austin Chronicle, The Austin Statesman, The Dallas Morning News and etc., it is as if I am finding treasure, looked over by all of you. I use them as a mosaic to create these works for my viewers to ponder as to what these even are. I fold and roll, fold and roll, fold and roll. It is cathartic for me, bringing me a sense of purpose to find a beautiful use for the paper after we are through with it.

28" x 78" x 6"
2015
Commissioned by Baxter Planning Systems

Working with my client, we formulated the concept of her wishes. We collected newspaper from around the world and her company even got to take part in making the work. If you are interested in a custom artwork of your own, please contact me.

Process of Order
rolled newspaper, matte medium, pH balancing spray and acrylic sealant
101" x  52" x 6"
2015

Process of Order is made up of newspaper from Houston, Dallas and Austin. The work was featured in a Georgetown Art Center exhibit representing 'up cycled' work. I wanted to experiment with this work, using larger rolls and creating a geometric pattern, showing the control of these tightly coiled objects into a composition of my choice.

Chaos Contained

rolled newspaper, matte medium, pH balancing spray and acrylic sealant
102" x 52" x 4"
2014

Chaos Contained represents all of the organized disarray that surrounds our everyday atmosphere. These lives are represented by the use of the material, newspapers collected in Austin, Texas. Everyone has a story, their own personal drama, and I believe we are all connected in some shape or fashion. The lines that are created represent sidewalks or pathways that connect us all and the movement in this piece represents life.
