BOTTLES OF DESTRUCTION
Bottles of Destruction, Texas is an art installation that represents those who were killed by drinking and driving on Texas roads in 2011. I shattered 1,213 bottles- one bottle for each of the 1,213 people who had their lives cut short by these irresponsible decisions. The broken alcohol bottles are meant symbolize all of the lives that have been shattered after these horrific accidents. I then collected the broken alcohol bottles which are now displayed in five shadow boxes. These boxes weigh nearly 300 pounds a piece. I chose to use five shadow boxes because I wanted to represent each of the five stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance.
Bottles of Destruction, Texas will be on display in Downtown Austin, Texas for the month of February at the Graeber Estate and then in East Austin at Pine Street Gallery from March to December. Currently, the separate boxes are being made into tables.
