Respecting Trauma

40”x 90” x 4”. Fired porcelain dipped long-stem flowers, glazed with glass and sand, embedded into pulp made out of the sheets that the artist's close friend was raped on, mounted onto a plywood cradled frame. Prentis Hall at Columbia University, NYC. 2019.
Picture
Respecting Trauma was made after nine of my peers from group therapy joined me in my studio for a community engagement project called Intention. After dipping the flowers they chose into porcelain slip, I embedded them into paper made out of my friend’s sheets she was raped on.
