Receptacle
96” x 42” x 42”. Rolled cotton rag paper handmade from Austinites, steel, wire. Exhibited at the Elisabet Ney Museum outdoor sculpture garden. 2017
Inspired by The Western Wall in Israel, Receptacle is a work that depends on contributions from viewers and is interactive. Located in the sculpture garden at the Elisabet Ney Museum, we (myself when on site and the museum staff) encourage people to write a message to the universe and then fold, roll and stick the message into the wire of the installation. Receptacle has been referred to as “Austin’s very own wishing well.” After the installation is over, I will be collecting the paper, kissed by mother nature, and making a piece out of these messages for our universe.
